  3. Should be six stars...

Posted by Jake on 23rd Feb 2010

I was lucky enough to grab a free copy of this from the Chartjackers live BlogTV show (never have 10 hours gone so fast) but I would have bought it anyway. Alex was the first vlogger I subscribed to, and its his fault I'm a Nerdfighter! His vlogs are usually honest and unapologetic, and his music is likewise heartfelt, emotional and honest. Rarely does an entire album get 5 stars in my iTunes library, but I can't justify giving any track on here less. In fact, I think 6 stars are in order, especially for "Holding On".
Just listened to his song "Georgia" on YouTube again, can't wait for the new album...

I met Alex while on holiday and he informed me of his music. LOVE IT!

  5. I can't say anything but awesome :)

Posted by Eline on 8th Dec 2009

Look, Alex, no one gets in between me and my favourite artist Anouk. But somehow, you manage to come very close. I just looked at my iTunes library, and found out that you are high up there when it comes to the amount of times I've played songs. I just had to write a review.

The best songs on the albums are the slower ones, Don't Look Back, Holding on, No More...

The weakest track is in my opinion How We Were, simply because the intro with that beat sound thing is just plain annoying. When I do hold out long enough, the song is quite enjoyable and good, but whenever my iPod starts playing this song, I just skip to the next track because I can't stand that intro.

I wish some of the songs were a bit longer. I like songs that are around the 3 minute mark, sometimes 4 minutes. A lot of songs on this album are shorter, too short in my opinion. Take 'Impossible dreams' for example, it's under 2 minutes!

Alex is an excellent writer, his lyrics are brilliant. With the themes he chooses to address it's easy to fall in the cliche trap, but he manages to stay out of it. There is a slight cheese flavour though, but everyone needs some good Gouda every once in a while

There are both sad and happier songs on the album, but all are powerful songs. This is wat makes the music so brilliant, somehow Alex manages to grab your attention and he doesn't let go. I can't put my finger on it, but it's real and powerful...

On Alex's blog he writes about his new album, which is definitely coming. I am very excited, and will definitely be buying again!

  6. BUY IT.

Alex is amazing. I rarely listen to this genre of music anymore, but he's got amazing talent. I hope more people would discover him and love his work as much as I do.

  7. Deserves more popularity!

Posted by Arka on 28th Nov 2009

Ever since I saw Alex's video for "Holding On," I've been eager to get this CD. I've heard people be skeptical of his music, but I wasn't disappointed at all when I heard it. The lyrics are brilliant, at times simple and deep. The music was perfect for the songs, from upbeat and powerful to sad and powerful. Alex did a great job with this album, and I look forward to more of his music :D

    Nothing to complain about

  8. I'm in Nerdfighterlike with his voice!

Posted by Tennath on 23rd Nov 2009

There are very few albums that can produce such a wide range of emotions. I find myself dancing about to 'Hearts' then on the verge of tears while swaying to 'No More' (My favorite track off this CD). I sing 'Holding On' to myself to get through the rough times, and it's all with Alex's brilliant voice on mental repeat.

Thank you DFTBA for bringing us such a talent.

  9. Absolutely Fantastic

If you want something that's different from all the garbage people call music these days, this is the BEST way to get just that. Alex Day has some of the best music I have heard in my entire life. A mix of happy and slightly sad songs, Parrot Stories is something you will enjoy for years.

  10. A sparkling songwriter

Posted by Tom Milsom on 27th Oct 2009

At the risk of indulging in sickening nepotism, I'd like to say how much I enjoy listening to this album. It was a joy to be the producer on such an exciting project, with somebody who has come out of his shell over the past year and subtly metamorphosed into one of the most serious contenders in the pantheon of internet-based singer-songwriters that I have had the pleasure to know and work with. This is a tender, funny, raw and cheeky album that will drag you through a prism of emotions and leave with you a smile.
