DFTBA Artist Playlists

Want to know what our artists are listening to this month? Each month we'll feature a different playlist from one of our signed artists. This month is Alex Day (nerimon), who has released both a solo album with us, and is one of the front men for Chameleon Circuit.

10. Blackout by Blue Skies
From: "The Blackout Sessions" (CD or bandcamp)
While not technically a DFTBA artist, Blue Skies has been on the Volume One compilation and he released a one-take album titled The Blackout Sessions, in which you can hear him tuning and riffing between each track. Very cool.

9. Not Sure by Raven Zöe
From: "kthxrae EP" (CD)
I love this song. I love this girl. I love her voice. There are a lot of things I love about the Raven Zöe package. Probably the only thing I don't love is how fiddly it is to make that ö appear. Check out this song, though.

8. Animals by Tom Milsom
From: "Painfully Mainstream" (CD or iTunes)
On his second album, which is definitely the album he released after his first, there are a lot of big epic popular tracks, but my favourite is the simple, atmospheric Animals. "I know I'm not the only fish in the sea, but if it were just you and me we'd take control of the sky" - lovely stuff :D

7. Addiction by Dr. Noise
From: "Silent Echoes" (CD or iTunes)
I found it hard to pick between Dr. Noise's songs because they're all fantastic. I don't know if the Doctor is playing at VidCon or not but I'd like to personally and publicly request right now that he does, so I can jump along to this song in the crowd.

6. Duet With Myself by Charlie McDonnell
From: YouTube
Have you been to see this song lately? I think you should. Cos you'll notice that it has A MILLION VIEWS. If that's not reason enough to be in my Top Ten, here are three more; beautiful performance, funny lyrics, and free to listen to whenever you want.

5. It All Makes Sense At The End by Molly Lewis
From: "I Made You A CD But I Eated It" (CD)
I've been a fan of Molly's for a long time now - sweetafton23, for those that don't use real names anymore - and so I snapped this EP right up, but I don't think I was prepared for JUST HOW GOOD it was. I spent several days playing just this song - an ode to wikipedia - on a loop, and then emailed her telling her so, and she replied 'omg nerimon emailed me!'. I still don't know if she was being sarcastic. Anyway BUY THIS.

4. This Isn't Hogwarts by Hank Green
From: "This Machine Pwns N00bz" (CD or iTunes)
Remember So Jokes? The album that was kind of live, but not; and kind of studio produced, but mostly acoustic; and had more versions of Accio Deathly Hallows than The Oceanic Six has members? This Machine Pwnz N00bz is a world away from that. It's incredibly polished, experimental, but still retains all of Hank's lightning-fast wit and charm that made So Jokes so fun. This Isn't Hogwarts is a screaming anthem that I never tire of.

3. Hum The Tune by Eddplant
From: "2008" (bandcamp)
Ed's currently working on his debut album, which will be very exciting and sexy, no doubt; but in the meantime, this is my favourite of the tracks on his acoustic EP '2008', released (rather surprisingly) in 2009.

2. Saved by ALL CAPS
From: "Songs In The Key Of Email" (CD)
While the world waits eagerly for the second ALL CAPS album to materialise, I wanna showcase this as the best song from their debut. The beat never fails to put me in a good mood and the idea of the song - 'what if you could save moments of your life like a video game?' - is simply inspired, and beautifully executed.

1. Henry Gale by The Oceanic Six
From: "Greatest Hits: Volume One" (CD or iTunes)
And topping off the Luke Conard top two (who'd have thought? :D) we have Henry Gale, the free pre-order track from a CD I've been looking forward to for a long time now. I figure the Oceanic Six will go the same way as Chameleon Circuit; there'll be a lot of "I never watched Lost, but I LOVE this music!", because while these guys paid a lot of attention to the Lost side of things, they paid even more to the music side, and that shines through so clearly. (I think this makes Henry Gale the first official DFTBA Number One <3)
